Manicure Monday: Oriflame, Golden Rose, BellaOggi, Bourjois

Oriflame The One Nail Polish in Gold Splendor 31195

I mentioned this on the blog before, but mistakenly named it ‘Gold Splash’ there. It was part of a limited edition winter collection of the year 2014/15. As all Oriflame The One nail polishes, it comes with a wide flat brush. Relatively easy to apply, likes to mess up the edges just a bit. Spreads evenly, is moderately shiny. Two layers are completely opaque. This is definitely a gold nail polish, but it’s not an ‘in yer face’ gaudy gold. It’s more of a non-refined metal kind of stuff.

Golden Rose Rich Color in 05

Easily one of my favourites. I’ve extolled the virtues of Golden Rose polishes before, and this is one of the prime examples of their Rich Color line. Easy to wear shade that is suitable for any occasion. Shouldn’t be difficult to wear against any skin tone. It’s one of my go-to polishes when I can’t decide what to put on my nails.

BellaOggi Gel Effect Keratin in Ladylike 43

A relatively new introduction to my collection. I’ve seen a post about it on a Russian ‘review anything’ site, fell in love with the colour, pinned it *, and hunted it down in local shops. The photo doesn’t translate it that well, but it’s actually a very decent marsala polish. It has a very muted and, dare I say, sophisticated look. Its name, Ladylike, is very fitting. This BellaOggi nail polish also immediately evokes images of cosy sweaters and warm cuppas in my mind.

The application was good. It spreads evenly and doesn’t try too hard to run off the edges. The brush is good. It dried pretty fast. My only gripe was it started bubbling on the second coat, which was a surprise. I only had one polish do that on me before. I don’t know if it was a one time occasion (temperature in the kitchen or any other factor) or if it’s a ‘feature’ of the formula. I’ll report back when I use it again.

* By the way, follow me on Pinterest! I regularly pin my wishlist items there.

Bourjois So Laque! in Rouge Diva 11

Expect a full report on this in my upcoming ‘Outgoing’ post. Spoiler alert: Not my favourite. The gloss looks good and the colour is a nice blue-toned deep red, but seriously. I can find it within a million other nail polish brands out there. I didn’t bother with clean-up for this photo, because the polish was literally applied so I could just quickly snap it to give you an idea on how it looks on the nails before I say goodbye to it. It will go to a new home, to an owner that has more patience.

Manicure Monday: Oriflame, Inglot

Oriflame The One in Night Orchid 30527

I’ve mentioned before that one of my superficial ‘goals in life’ is to own every single polish from Oriflame’s The One line. I just love them, and am really sad that I’ve missed several LE colours here and there.

This colour is in the Oriflame’s permanent line of nail colours. It’s a really cool-toned really deep fuchsia, a bit on the dark side to be truly considered one. The photograph is brightened, so it doesn’t give a true representation of the shade.

I have two coats on, but could have got away with just one. Dried quickly and well. The application is OK, but the formula is rather thick and the brush is wide, so you will need to clean the cuticle up a bit. No streaks. The longevity is not as formidable as they promise – about two-three days.

INGLOT Nail Polish in 718

A pretty perfect pale pink (what’s with all the p’s) that I quite enjoyed looking at. The colour is just so… girly. It dries semi-matte, with a bit of a sheen still left to it. The formula is a bit streaky – but hey, for a polish that’s both light and matte, I say it fared very well. Needed three coats, dried pretty quickly. The longevity is so-so. On my right hand it chipped on the first day, and on the second I had to remove it. Left hand remained unchanged by then.

Nail Polish: Oriflame Very Me Eternal Pink

oriflame veryme eternal pink nail polish

This is a polish from a Very Me collection named Spring Tenderness. The collection itself consists of three shades: a mint green, a very light orange, and this one. I tried really hard not to buy the entire collection, only buying the mint green at first, but in the end I just couldn’t resist.

Damn, I’m really bad with this nail polish thing, aren’t I? If I could, I’d just buy entire ranges of everything without even thinking.

Not sorry.

The formula of this was okay, if a little bit on the thick side. An even application of this is difficult, but not impossible. I applied it a little streaky, but due to its colour and finish, it’s almost unnoticeable. The drying time was okay, but could be better. (FYI, anything that takes longer than a minute falls under the ‘could be better’ label in my world. Patience is not my manicure virtue.) The brush was so-so. Better than the former main Oriflame line (now replaced with The One), but still a little wonky. The colour is a pretty tender pink, which goes with just about anything. I love the idea of it, but I don’t think it looks good against my skin tone.

Nail Polish: Oriflame The One in Lilac Silk 30524.

oriflame lilac silk

I am happy to report that the application and the formula have seen a considerable improvement in all The One polishes I’ve tried so far. This colour and its variations (from greyish lilac, to light lilac, to intense blue purple) has become one of my obsessions over the last year. I enjoyed staring at my nails throughout the day. It’s a very gentle shade of lilac. The title of the polish couldn’t be more apt in this case. Lilac Silk suits it through and through.

Alas, it chipped quickly. It was off my nails in under 48 hours, but I still can’t quite figure out if it’s my current base that is at fault.

Pure Colour, previous main line of Oriflame polishes, has what looks like an identical shade, titled Lavender Shimmer. I can’t quite figure out whether it has shimmer in it, but judging by the title it might. The colours are very, very similar.

Nail Polish: Golden Rose Matte Velvet in 108.

golden rose matte velvet 108

I circled around this bottle at the GR counter like a hawk for some good five weeks. (See! I have restraint! OMG!) Finally, I caved and bought it, because the frosty bottle and the shade of blue were irresistible.

This is a matte polish with quite a bit of shimmer added to it. Over the years of polish addiction I realised that I’m not a huge fan of frosts/ shimmers/ glitters, but on the occasion I still enjoy them, and I don’t mind them in matte polish as much as I do in the regular one.

It’s hard to tell from the above photo, in which my camera decided to pick up all the shimmer in the world, but indeed it dries matte. The application is smooth, the brush is good. It was also very quick to dry – watch me do a little dance.

As with the other matte polishes I have so far tried, it was quick to chip as well. I think it lasted about two days on my nails.

The matte finish is better visible in this photo. Also, I love the frosty glass bottle. Love.
